Relative to publishing frequency, what is the multiplier effect and why do I need to know about it?
What you need to know is doubling your publishing frequency increases your traffic levels by a factor of five!
The numbers below are from a real test we performed. We is actually Bill Belew whom I worked very closely with for an 18 month period. During that time he gave me permission to say “we” even though it was really his data collection.

- 2.7 posts per day
- 167,024 page views in total
- That works out to 695.6 views per post
- 372 posts in total
- 4.1 posts per day
- 494,066 page views in total
- That works out to 1,328.1 views per post
- 533 posts in total
- 5.9 posts per day
- 836,464 page views in total
- That works out to 1,569.3 views per post
As you can easily see, when we increased the publishing frequency from 2.7 posts per day to 5.9 posts per day (slightly more than twice as many posts), we increased the page views by a factor of 5.
Alternatively, when you halve the publishing frequency, you decrease the traffic by 4/5ths.
This is for real. We have seen this over and over.
