Part of proper SEO is ensuring various “fields” or “values” within posts are set properly.
The two most important are the title and the meta description.
There are WordPress plugins that allow you to specify these values to be what you want.
This article is part of a series about local SEO marketing. For access to all the articles in the series, click on the link in the prior sentence.
Examples of such plugins are:
All in One SEO: Allows you to set the title, meta-description, and specify the keyword phrase you are optimizing for.
WordPress SEO: This is my personal favorite as in addition to the title and meta-description, this plugin performs an on page analysis of how well optimized your actual content is (are you using your keyword phrases too few times, too many times, etc, etc).
In addition to SEO specific plugins, there is another important aspect of modern or current websites, and the is the ability for the display to be automatically reformatted for smart phone screens and tablets.
If your theme does not do this, you need to install a plugin that does.
On one of my websites I use WordPress Mobile Edition. It works well but there are other such plugins as well.
