Evergreen posts are posts that contain information that is fairly timeless. That will be as useful and interesting five years from now as they are today.

Examples are evergreen topics, for a variety of subjects are:

  • 50 uses for WD-40
  • 35 non traditional uses for Coca-Cola
  • Safety reviews of older cars
  • Famous mosques of North Africa
  • Thankstiving recipes
  • Best Christmas tree decorations
  • Basic electrical wiring
  • Basic plumbing repairs
  • A guide to different shark species
Your website should contain some number of evergreen posts. Posts that provide useful information that is not timely and won’t become “old news” in a matter of weeks or months.

Through the use of evergreen posts you create “reference posts” and you will be surprised over time how these reference posts attract links (provided they are well written and useful). I sometimes refer to evergreen posts as “link bait”.

Think for a minute about the web pages that you bookmark and refer to on occasion. What makes them worthy of a bookmark?

Your web readers do the same.
