Please allow me to ramble for a minute…… Ever since the invention of commerce, merchants have tested markets prior to entering them.
This often consisted of entering the market in a very small way to gauge customer response.

– Do people want to buy that which you want to sell?
Today, for the first time in the history of commerce, this question can be answered by anyone armed with the tools needed to sift through all the Adwords auction data that Google has accumulated in the past 10 years.
Remember that Google Adwords is an auction. As such, the price per click for a certain keyword phrase is not the same every time someone clicks on it.
Google has enormous data that details:
- how often specific keyword phrases are searched for
- sliced geographically down to the major metro area (the San Francisco Bay Area is one such metro area)
- how much was paid in PPC fees for that keyword phrase, per day, per week, per month, etc
Never before in the history of commerce have we been able to test this so cheaply and so quickly.
