Simply put, a visitor is when a web user visits at least one page on your website, whereas a page view is when a visitor views one of your web pages.

Why the distinction?

The main reason for the distinction is because they are different, plain and simple. However, the distinction is more than a mere definition. It has a significant impact on your local SEO marketing efforts.

One of the aspects of the Google ranking algorithm has to do with your ratio of page views to visitors.

I’m sure only the Google web spam team knows how this ratio is used, but the rule of thumb is you need your ratio to be AT LEAST 1.5 to 1, which is to  say you need to average at least 1.5 page views per visitor.
