How to generate traffic and boost your conversions with SEO

What is your best way to generate website traffic?

While paid advertising delivers traffic in the very near term, long term  search engine optimization has the best ROI  and iis the best way to generate traffic that converts.

There are plenty of channels for  generating traffic to your website, but nothing really compares to search engines when it comes to attracting RELEVANT visitors.

Luckily, there are ways to optimize your website to take advantage of that.

This article shows you some tips for creating a high ranking on search engine results pages.

Use video content

Video has various advantages:

  • Some people prefer to learn things by watching short videos rather than reading blog posts.
  • Videos help keep people on page longer, thereby increasing the time on page metric, which helps boost your SEO.
  • Videos allow you to repurpose old blog posts. If you’ve provided an answer or made a point through a blog post, you can then do the same thing in a video, then embed that video into another blog post.

But there is one big disadvantage that is easy to over come. Google does a poor job of searching a video as it’s ability to search a video depends on how well it converts speech to text. Right now Google still does a poor job of that.

So to use videos for SEO it’s important that below the video there is either a long text description of what is in the video (long being at last 200 words) or better still a transcript of the video.

Creating transcripts is tedious but there are firms out there that do so for one dollar per minute of video. For explainer videos of 2 to 3 minutes, the cost is only $2 or $3 per video.

Create quality content

But what makes content “of high quality”? The answer (from Google, not from us) is the post should provide answers! The degree to which you help people meet their “search query intent” determines the quality of the post. For example, if you’re writing about dog training, each post should provide one actionable tip on the topic.

Brand awareness

Brand awareness is not an “input” to SEO, but rather is a benefit. Having said that, as your brand becomes recognized and trusted, this DOES help boost your SEO.

Make your business website easily accessible

Sites that are hard to navigate lose “SEO points”. A good clean design and ease of site navigation does improve your SEO (again per Google, not us), so while this is often thought of as important for the users, many people do not know the effect of the user interface and the user experience on SEO.

It’s not the case that a good user experience increases your sites SEO, but it is the case that a poor one decreases it.
