This post provides step by step instructions on how to submit your sites sitemap (sitemap.xml file) to Google via Google Webmasters Tools.

Background
When Google and the other search engine robots crawl your site, they look for a sitemap file as it gives them a listing of what on your site is available to be crawled. It makes their job easier.
Submitting your sitemap.xml file to Google makes it easier for Google to help you.

Step 1: Ensure your site has a Sitemap.xml file
- Install the WordPress plugin “Google XML Sitemaps v3 for qTranslate”
- Select Settings -> XML-Sitemap
- Select the link at the top of the page to build your sitemap file
Step 2: Access Google Webmasters Tools
And once you do, select the website in question.

Step 3: Hover over the word Sitemaps, and select it

Step 4: Select “ADD/TEST SITEMAP”

Step 5: Enter “sitemap.xml” where indicated, select “Submit Sitemap”

Step 6: Look for “Sitemap submitted” message, select “Close”

You are now done. You now wait for Google to index your site, a process that should take only a few days for brand news sites.
