Why Evergreen Posts are Important for Successful SEO and Inbound Marketing

Evergreen Posts Never Get Old and Outdated

There are two broad categories of posts for your Inbound Marketing effort.

Evergreen Posts

Evergreen posts not focused on a current event. Evergreen posts are always relevant and never get old. An example evergreen post might be “50 every day uses of WD-40”.

You are very unlikely to ever find a current news article to which such a post is relevant.

Timely or Current Posts

Let’s say some photographer takes a picture of a Khardashian using WD-40 and you almost immediately thereafter publish a post in which you say something like “If famous person X believes in WD-40, you should too”.

That is an example of using a topic of current interest.

Evergreen vs Timely

Versus is a weird way to state this, because your Inbound Marketing effort benefits from both, but each type has a different place.

The beauty of evergreen posts is they are as relevant in 12 months or 24 months as they are today.

Their ability to attract visitors to your website via Organic Search does not drop off after the news cycle moves on.

Is There a Best Ratio?

The short answer is…. “It depends”.

If you’re writing about bathroom remodeling, you’ll probably have 1 timely post for every 20 evergreen.

On the other hand, if you’re writing about Hollywood trends and gossip, you’ll probably have 49 timely for every 1 evergreen.

What works best for you depends entirely upon what your desired audience expects.
