SEO success requires persistence in publishing quality content.

What are the Basic Requirements of SEO for a Well-Ranked Website?

In way the question is misleading because of the focus on SEO.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a necessary foundation to having your website rank high in Google searches, but in and of itself it’s insufficient.

The technical aspects of SEO must be taken care of, but by using WordPress and setting things up correctly that is taken care of on your behalf.

That still leaves you with the big task of publishing.

What many marketing people seem not to get about ranking your website is that content marketing (and/or inbound marketing which is very similar but not identical) looks a lot like journalism.

The key to being found online lies in publishing, not SEO per se.

The SEO of what you publish must be done right, but as indicated earlier that’s easy to do with a few WordPress settings and plugins.

What the technical stuff won’t do is generate content for you and format it correctly.

Below is a short list of the basic requirements:

Publish A Lot

Not just daily but more than once a day.

Publish Quality Content

Where quality has three main aspects:

Your Content is Properly Formatted for SEO

Above and beyond what the WordPress settings and plugins do for you every post needs:

  • A strong SEO friendly title.
  • An image with a good caption, alt text, and description.
  • An internal link.
  • An external link.

Your Content is Easily Scanned

Very few of us read online the way we read on paper. Instead we scan the page looking for answers. Section headings and bold text and the use of white space make your posts easier to scan.

Your Content Contains Real Answers

Being useful is the highest for of quality.

Keep it Short

At least 200 words, but no more than 30o. We go online looking for answers, not literature (unless of course literature is the answer you’re looking for). Don’t ramble on. Get to the point and provide backup for your ideas.

Be Consistent with Your Publishing

At regular intervals. Every 12 hours or every 8 hours if you can do three posts a day.

Keep on Publishing

The longevity of your website can only be controlled by starting now and keeping with it.

In Summary

What it takes to be found online is:

  • Quantity
  • Quality
  • Consistency
  • Longevity
