A gazillion experts will tell you how to sell better via social media.

And guess what? Most of them are selling bullshit!!!

The faster you let go of the many myths floating around, the sooner you start focusing on the right things.

Social media generates leads

Some, yes. But compared to other lead generation efforts, very little.

Social media marketing plays a very important supporting role to Content Marketing. It is true that social media is a form of content, but try getting people from a social media post to a landing page and see how often people convert.

You want leads, you grow your organic search traffic, direct people to landing pages at the end of every blog post.

While this does take time, it works, and social media definitely helps.

Social media marketing takes a lot of time

Having a social presence and more connections DOES take a lot of time. Do not expect the results instantly as you sell through social media. What you need to remember is that even Rome was not build in in a day.

We’ve all heard of the “overnight success”, but mostly that is bullshit too. On average it takes 5 to 8 years to become an overnight success. Even the Beatles cranked away for 7 years before becoming an overnight success.

But is it true that you need to know everything about social media marketing for you to be successful?

No.

Knowing every aspect, tricks and working of social media selling takes time to learn.  This is because there’s a lot to know about social media platforms and they change so often.

So how do you learn? By doing!

Mastering social media skills is not necessarily easy and you have other commitments that don’t allow you to spend much time on social media, but don’t let that hold you back.

You need to only understand the following social selling basics and you are good to go

  • Know some basics of setting up your profile. Make it look good.
  • The next thing you need to understand with social media is how you reach your target audience and connect with them.
  • After connecting your audience, start sharing your content  (as in the original content you publish to your website or blog) to them and provide an avenue for discussions with your audience.

The point here is to understand that for you to sell through social media, is not a must to understand everything. The simple basics are enough to make you successful with social selling.
