How much should a business budget for Inbound Marketing?

An article recently published at KunoCreative.com makes the following statement…

I recommended a range of annual inbound marketing budgets based on company size, anywhere from $100-150K for small businesses up to $5-20 million for enterprises with $500+ million in annual sales.

Let me focus in on and repeat the small business part. Small businesses should budget in the rang of $100K to $150K per year.

That’s $8,300 a month to $12,500 a month. For a small business.

The worst thing about that statement is the strong element of truth it contains.

Inbound marketing is not cheap, is not quick, and takes time and effort, but for those who can afford to do it, is incredibly effective. Effective to the point where it looks like magic (which it’s not).

When you’re a REALLY small business and a monthly budget of $8,300 is simply out of the question, what can you do?

Inbound Marketing: Outsourced vs DIY

Having the benefits of Inbound Marketing costs, but it can be done in such a way as to cost time and effort more than money.

When you have someone in your business who can devote 1 to 2 hours a day to this activity (indefinitely) AND has the detailed knowledge of how to do it properly, you can do it for much less than $8,300 a month.

For the record there are agencies that will provide services for $2,500 a month and some for $2,000 a month, but even those expense levels are beyond the capabilities of most small businesses.

For $47 a month in total cash expenses, and 1 to 2 hours a day of sweat equity, your business can reap the benefits at a small fraction of the cost.
