Getting Better at Blog Post Writing Requires Writing More
As with anything, we learn best by doing. An old roman soldier was once quotes as saying “Anything learned while sitting down isn’t worth knowing”. In our modern technological society that statement is not literally true, but the sentiment is valid.
Part of getting better at something is doing it more.
This is as true of Inbound Marketing as it is of everything.
To write better blog posts, write more blog posts and get better at it.
The Core Activities of Inbound Marketing
Both activities require time, energy, and focus.
The first blog post you ever write may take you a few hours. After you’ve written dozens of blog posts you’ll be able to produce a high quality blog post in 20 minutes.
Networking is a matter or learning what blogs and forums are relevant to the people you’re trying to attract and spending time participating in various ways. You can obtain backlinks to posts on your website by way of:
- Guest posting: You contact the webmaster and offer to write an article.
- Commenting: If the blog post comments have an attribute named DoFollow turned on, there is SEO value in leaving comments. Just make sure you leave meaningful comments. Ideally ask a meaningful question.
- GooglePlus social media updates: I specifically single out GooglePlus as I’ve seen GooglePlus updates rank higher in search results than the post they refer to. A GooglePlus update by you has some SEO benefit, but when someone shares your update, the benefit is amplified.
The Specific SEO Benefit of GooglePlus
When you share a GooglePlus update, people connected to you may see it in a search result. When one of the people connected to you shares (or +1’s) that same update, people they’re connected to may see their update in a search result.
How to Improve at Blogging
The post title is not the only blogging skill to master, just a critically important one. The way you get better is by practicing. Since you need to publish to your website anyway, just do that.
Two or three times a day (short focused posts).
Do not worry that the quality of your writing is initially not good. Everyone goes through a similar learning curve. Just write. You’ll be surprised how quickly you improve.
