Within Each and Every Post, You Need
A very strong well formatted search friendly title. Your titles must meet two goals at once:
- Appeal to people
- Appeal to search engines
For the latter, what you do is consider the types of terms people with an interest in your topic are likely to search for, then use as many of those words in your title without using any words twice.
The length of the title matters for people, and less for search engines. For people you have about 65 characters before the title is truncated with a “…” in the Search Engine Result Page. For search engines your limit is quite large (someone told me they conducted testing to determine you have 110 characters).
So when building the title of your post, what works best is to use as many search friendly terms as you can while putting the words you feel are most important to people at the front of the title so they show in the SERP before the “…”.
A great tip on how to build a strong title is to conduct a little thought experiment. Pretend you wrote the post, saved it in a word file, and lost it on your computer. A month later you use the search ability of either MacOS or Windows and to help you find the file you enter something into the search bar. Whatever you enter to find the file makes a great title for your post.
