Brands Have Personalities
If you doubt that brands have personalities, think of retail, specifically Neiman-Marcus and Walmart. Their personalities are quite different.
In the same way that people sometimes “just click” with someone else, and alternatively feel very out of sync and uncomfortable with others, some people will just click with your brand while others never will.
This is OK. There is a good chance people who shop at Neiman-Marucs do not shop at Walmart and visa versa.
Knowing the personality of your brand helps you target your desired audience, while not spending time courting people who are very unlikely to buy. People who do not sync with your brand’s personality.
What is the Personality of YOUR Brand?

However, one exercise they propose which I really like is to identify what celebrity persona best reflects the personality of brand.
I’ll use my business as an example.
The Personality of Inbound Marketing University
Inbound Marketing University is all about helping you increase your visibility within your community (marketplace) and helping you succeed by helping you help others.
The way we do this is by focusing not just on Inbound Marketing as a tool, but as a means to gather your community around you.
The best answer as to what celebrity or character best describes us can not come from me as I don’t see us from the outside. As such I’m very curious how we look to you. If you have a sense of who we are, please leave it as a comment below.
