What Do Small Business Branding and Search Engine Optimization Techniques Have To Do With Each Other?

Look at the question one way and the answer is nothing.

You establish your brand, then reinforce it with your SEO efforts (actually your Inbound Marketing efforts. Why is this even a valid question?

It’s a valid question because the relationship between small business branding and search engine optimization techniques is not so one sided.

Small Business Branding

Small business branding is the business equivalent of working to answer the question “Who do you think you are?”.

It encapsulates your beliefs, values, vision, mission in life, and community you serve. If that sounds like a tall order that’s because it is a tall order.

Arriving at an effective small business brand is no small feat. Big businesses pay big bucks for expensive consultants to help you. Us small business owners generally have only each other to help focus this in.

If small business branding “feeds” your search engine optimization efforts, then the answer to the initial question is “nothing”.

Search Engine Optimization Techniques

The more correct term (in my opinion) is Inbound Marketing, not SEO. That’s because SEO is a subset of Inbound Marketing, which is what really matters.

You want your website to be found via organic search (and yes you do), you need to publish!!!! And often!

Having said that, after you’ve been publishing for a while, something very interesting occurs.

The conversation becomes an actual set of conversations. You publish stuff, and others provide comments and feedback.
