Successfully Growing Web Traffic and Generating Leads
A recent post on JeffBullas.com titled The Top 3 Hacks to Grow Blog Subscribers, provides the following three hacks:
- Quality Content
- Call to Action
- Landing Page
Maybe I’m nit picking. Maybe I’m just having a bad day.
But…. when something is a core success principal of effective blogging, is it right to call it “a hack”?
The other two items (Call to Action and Landing Page) are not part of the effort to attract your audience, but are part of marketing and selling, and again, they are so central to the effort that referring to them as “hacks” feels misleading.
They are core success principals.

This is a topic that is more meaningful to me.

To expand a little further….
Pages on websites with more pages, rank higher than equally good pages on websites with fewer pages. Google likes sites that contain a lot of quality content.
You write for people. The #1 criteria of “high quality” is usefulness. Is the page useful to someone who finds it? Does it help them learn something? Do something? Find something?
You format for search engines.
Sites that are updated multiple times a day have many more visitors and generate many more leads than sites that are updated daily or less often.
The other three items above being equal, older sites rank higher than newer sites. Of course the other three things above are rarely equal.
Do you just want traffic? Are you selling ads? Is the site a hobby? Or are you selling products or services?
If so, it’s not enough to attract your audience to your website. You need them to take action. You need to put effective Calls to Action on your website to walk them through their buying decision.
