measuring local seo marketing with google webmasters tools

Measuring the Health of Local SEO Marketing Efforts

One of the most beautiful aspects of local SEO marketing (which is a specialized form of Inbound Marketing) is the ability to monitor closely and to measure frequently.

This allows you to make course corrections as needed as often as monthly, which is not possible with more traditional forms of outbound marketing.

While there are sophisticated tools that make the presentation of data easier to digest, you can do this using two FREE tools, which are; Google Webmasters Tools and Google Analytics.

Zippe.biz provides Local SEO Marketing training, consulting, and implementation.

These tools are provided by Google, and do provide a Google centric view of things, but as almost all the organic traffic to your website results from Google searches, don’t worry about this. Obtaining a high search engine ranking means learning to dance with Google.

Google Webmasters Tools is a Google eye view of your website. The most important detail I extract is Search Queries, which tells you how often pages and posts on your website appear within a SERP (search engine result page), where in the SERP your page/post appears (average position), how often your page is selected from the SERP, and what specific pages/posts from your website are presented for each of the search terms.

This is incredibly valuable information. Not the least is you can watch your search ranking increase over time. When you initially start your efforts, you’re showing up on page 55, or 120, or whatever. As you generate more and more relevant content, you can see your search ranking rise. From 55 to 43, to 27, to 22, to 19, and eventually to page 1. How long it takes to get to page one involves a number of variables, but seeing the progress gives you the knowledge that what should happen is happening, and gives you the incentive to carry on.

Above and beyond what is described above, if there are any errors being experienced by Google while attempting to crawl your site, Google Webmasters Tools will tell you.
