Local SEO Marketing is a specialized form of Inbound Marketing, which is both the most effective (cheapest cost per lead) of ANY form of marketing ever AND is based on making it easy for your prospects to find your business website through organic search.
The activity that makes it work is….. You guessed it….. Publishing!
Any “expert” who encourages you to focus excessively on technical tricks is not an expert you want to work with.
When you turn your website into a repository of useful and relevant information that your customers and prospects need and appreciate, it becomes an “Internet watering hole” where people come in their efforts to answer their questions and solve their problems. And… the real beauty of this mechanism is they find you without looking FOR YOU.
I will use someone I once worked with as a case in point.
Bill Belew and I worked together for about 18 months and provided Inbound Marketing services to clients. His prior 8 years as a professional blogger (selling advertising) laid the foundation to help people sell their products and services.
We thought we could short cut our own process by selling Inbound Marketing through outbound channels (meetups, presentations, speaking engagements, etc). It did work, some, but it took time. At some point Bill and I independently and simultaneously came to the conclusion we were being untrue to ourselves.
We were selling Inbound through Outbound.
In two months, our ranking for the phrase “local SEO marketing” has increased from page 45 to page 5, as reported by Google Webmasters Tools.
Since then Bill and I went our separate ways, but that experience is one more data point to the ability to grow rankings through publishing.
