Is the HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certification Worth Taking?
I admire HubSpot for bringing the phrase Inbound Marketing into common usage, and I admire their desire to quantify how well someone understand the important ideas.
It’s a multiple choice quiz where for many questions different answers are deemed correct depending upon whose advise you listen to.
To illustrate the point, question #48 is shown below.
As you can see, the answer that is most correct is very subjective. Per HubSpot the correct answer is the 3rd one. A detail you learn in their training video.

Don’t learn about Inbound Marketing, learn how to do Inbound Marketing for YOUR business.
Define success not as passing that test, but rather as:
- Increasing organic traffic to your website
- Increased leads
I’ve left increases sales off the list, because while that is ultimately the goal, Inbound Marketing only sells your stuff if the entire sales transaction is completed on your website. For most of us that is not true. The purpose of Inbound Marketing is so you and the prospect talk. You then complete the sale.
