Internet Marketing Strategy Preparation | Who is Your Audience?

This post deals with the question of… What audience are you intending to attract?

First and foremost, any business that tries to be everything to everybody is going to have a hard time attracting customers.

Take us for example. We wish to attract an audience of business owners who are frustrated with the hit or miss results of what I’ll call traditional advertising and can budget a minimum of $2,000 a month to Inbound Marketing for a minimum of 12 months.

However even that is not specific enough. I’ll refine my target further in the next few months but this is good for now.

Another business I’m involved with (The Solera Group) is trying to attract homeowners who are planning to remodel either their bathroom or their kitchen. That is specific enough.

Here are a few more examples of real clients of Inbound Marketing:

  • Somebody actually searching for promotional products. More often or not, they are looking for a specific type/category of product: custom logo molded chocolate.
  • Either the school principal or the school administrator or someone who is tasked to research school management systems to be considered by their school.
  • Owners of medium sized business who need one half to one full time IT person, but are concerned about the cost.
  • Very large support organizations looking to provide their clients with an effective self support software tool that greatly reduces the demands on their support staff.

By figuring out who you’re writing for, you choose write content that is relevant mostly to them, and you attract more of them.
