This post is part of a series about the Internet marketing strategy I call Inbound Marketing. It is also part of a sub-series about securing your WordPress website. To access the lead post please click either of the link in the prior sentence.

The Problem

People like to choose password that are easy for them to remember, which is why a lot of people choose weak passwords.

The solution

The solution is two fold:

  1. Teach people how to create strong passwords they easily remember. By basing the password on a phrase, not a word.
  2. Enforce the use of strong passwords for everyone on your website via software. I use the WordFence Security plugin for WordPress.

Zippe.biz helps you generate quality leads for your business through your website.

How to enforce the use of strong passwords

Step 1: Install the WordFence Security plugin.

Step 2: From the menu on the left of your screen, select Options under Wordfence.

Step 3: Scroll down to the section labeled Login Security Options.

Step 4: For the field “Enforce strong passwords?”, select “Force all members to use strong passwords”.

Step 5: Scroll to the bottom and select the button labeled “Save Changes”.

Step 6: Teach your people how to create strong passwords they will find easy to remember (see above)

Step 7: Repeat step 6

Step 8: Repeat step 6

I’m being a bit sarcastic with steps 7 and 8, but the need to reiterate how to create strong passwords that are easy to remember will never go away.

Most people do not understand the importance of this and view this as an inconvenience. To make it as convenient as possible you need to teach them how. You may need to teach them how over and over, but don’t worry. They will all get it eventually.
