How much is a lot? It depends on who you’re trying to outrank. If you’re trying to outrank Starbucks for the word “coffee”, you have a long slog ahead of you.
So how much is a lot depends entirely upon which site or sites you need to outrank and for which topics.
Some site have a lot of content in general, but they cover multiple topics (think Wikipedia). When this happens you don’t need more posts than have in aggregate, but you do need more posts than they have about your topic.
So you just keep grinding them out.
The other important aspects of this is:
- Most of your posts should be fairly short (200 to 250 words)
- One post should answer one question
When you find that you have 500+ words of something to say relative to a specific question or point, you should break it up into two posts, a part 1 and a part 2 and link them together (next and previous). This conveys the same information as one longer post would, but increase your quantity, which the search engines like.
