How to generate leads by launching a webinar program

Why conduct online webinars as part of your marketing? Because you can reach a larger and more geographically spread out audience than you can with in person speaking engagements.

It has the added advantage of you can wear comfortable clothing. Put on a nice shirt and no one needs to know you’re wearing a bathing suit and comfy slippers as well.

It does take time to grow your webinar audience and you will spend time prospecting for audience members, but it does pay off. I’ve had people join my program directly from webinar presentations I’ve done.

Here are a few tips that will keep you on top of your webinar.

Use Good Software

I have used GoToWebinar and WebinarJam and I much prefer WebinarJam. While there is nothing fundamentally wrong with GoToWebinar, WebinarJam has so many more features AND costs less. While GoToWebinar is $99 a month, WebinarJam is $399 a year.

Keep it simple

If you are starting with a webinar presentation, be sure to keep it very simple and manageable. Stay focused with your webinar and keep in mind that scaling your webinar program (over time) is important.

Remember to host a topic that provides an effective environment for you and your audience to familiarise. If you are stating with your webinar, keep your campaign activities focused and plan ahead of time.


Don’t sell. Teach. Of course early in the webinar mention to your audience that they will be provided with an opportunity to work with you, and at the end make your offer, but don’t be selling during the entire webinar.

People buy value, so demonstrate value. Be educational, be informative, teach.

Be organized

For maximum success of your webinar, being organized is the key.

Running a webinar is rather involved. You’re presenting. Someone is monitoring the chat section for questions. You do the Q&A at the end. You have to keep your schedule.

Good webinars are heavily choreographed.



Steve Jobs was always given credit for the quality of his presentations. What is not widely publicized is the degree to which he rehearsed. Engineers at Apple occasionally speak of seeing him rehearse a full presentation several times, and it has been reported that he would literally rehearse for a few days prior to a presentation.

Coordinate your sales effort with your webinar

Which basically means follow up.

Remember that your webinar is part of your lead generation efforts therefore coordinate, enable and communicate it with the people following up on your leads.


In conclusion, start with the basics, and measure from there and discover the benefits of a webinar program in lead generation efforts.
