My initial answer is…. “it depends” and it does. I’ve done it for some for as little as $2,000 a month and gotten significant results in 5 months. However how quickly it delivers results varies from niche to niche.

Most reputable agencies I’ve spoken to have a $5,000 per month minimum commitment, and it takes several months to see results.

To summarize:

New consultant, just starting out: Maybe $2,000 per month

Agency with strong track record: $5,000 per month

Paying with Sweat Equity for Cash Strapped Businesses

There is however the possibility of paying with sweat equity, rather than cash.

That takes 1 to 2 hours a day, and anyone can learn to do it. It’s not rocket science.

Anyone can learn to do it (and coincidentally we’ll teach you).

There are still some cash expenses, but they’re minimal.

You need a domain name, hosted WordPress, maybe a professional plugin or two, someone to create a website for you, etc, etc.

If you do your website in hours your total expenses might be $200 per year.

But then someone has to do the work of publishing, defining and implement your sales funnel through well placed Calls to Action, monitoring and measuring performance and results (both in terms of attracting clients and tweaking your conversion paths).

While it’s not rocket science, it does require focus and commitment. While it is possibly one quarter to one third of a Full Time Equivalent, if it is the lowest priority of what that person does it may slip with other tasks run over.

If you want the long term payout, the Inbound Marketing activities can not be allowed to slip. You’ve got to figure out how.

Having said that, Inbound Marketing delivers.

For the first 5 to 12 months there is no return on your investment (of either time or money) but when it starts generating leads, they’ll be the highest quality leads you EVER receive, because they found you.
