The Four Primary Search Signals to Being Found Online
There are estimated to be 220+ factors affecting how web pages rank. These are referred to as Search Signals.
While there are so many you can focus on, focusing on a select few of them gets you 90% of the result and saves you an enormous amount of time.
A few of the critical ones are…… drum roll please……
Quantity is nothing more than how many distinct URLs does your website have? Assuming you run WordPress (if you’re not, you need to) each Page creates one URL as does each Post. So quantity is the number of WordPress pages plus WordPress posts.
Quality is how good your posts (and pages) are. There are two aspects to quality.
#1) How well formatted are they for SEO?
This includes the technical stuff like making sure the meta data is set right, how SEO friendly your titles are, the use of internal and external links, etc.
#2) How well do your posts appeal to be people
And this also means two things.
A) How does it look, by which I mean use of white space, section headings, bold text where appropriate for emphasis?
B) Does it say something interesting and useful? Do you know what Google says is their #1 criteria for a webpage to be considered of high quality? How useful it is!
How often is your website updated? How often do you publish fresh content?
How long your website has existed is a search signal and very important one.
If you’re not publishing fresh content to your website already, the sooner your start the better.
Does This Mean You Need to Constantly Find New Story Ideas?
AT LEAST one a day, preferably more.
