Including a transcript in blog posts that contain videos strengthens the SEO of the blog post and makes it much easier to find.

For SEO purposes, should I put the transcript of my videos in my blog posts?

In a word, Yes.

Google is good at searching text. The ability of Google to search video is only as good as their ability to convert speech into text. For now, they’re not good at that. To see how bad they are upload a video to YouTube then turn on the close captioning as you play it.

Creating a transcript of your video and inserting it in the blog post below the video provides a clean way to making it easy for the search engines to find your post.

For a specific example of this, follow the link below.

Why Should You Publish Mostly Short Blog Posts to Your Website?

You do want to display the video very prominently and you want the transcript to provide an SEO service, so I suggest you format the post as follows:

  1. Put the video as the very first thing in the blog post, do not put any titles or headers before the video.
  2. Immediately after the video, create a line that reads something like “Start Transcript….”.
  3. Immediately after the transcript, close the transcript with a link that reads something like “End Transcript”.

Don’t forget every blog post needs at least one internal and at least one external link.
