Effective lead generation via local SEO marketing requires dancing with Google. It involves something we’ve all heard of that is called SEO.
This post is part of a series of questions we get asked over and over and over again. For the lead post in this series, select the link in the prior sentence.
What exactly is SEO? And how do you use it to generate leads for your business?
First off, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
The next questions are therefore, what are the search engines looking for, and how do you provide it?
Since the beginning of Google (who is after the 800 pound gorilla amongst search engines), your website will rank higher when it contains relevant content that people find interesting and useful.
As Google has updated their algorithm, they have moved closer and closer to this ideal and continue to do so.
So ranking high within Google is a matter of creating a repository of interesting and useful information, that helps people answer questions and solve problems (think about how you search the web), and ensuring that the website overall, as well as each and every post, is properly formatted for good SEO.
Having a website that is search engine optimized is then a matter of publishing content that appeals to human readers, and is published in such a way that the search engines find it and give it a high ranking.
When you strike that balance, your site is optimized for search engines.
If you publish is very interesting to people, but the search engines don’t bring people to it, you’ve err’d too much one way. If on the other hand your write total crap that is well formatted for SEO, visitors will arrive (at first) but they won’t convert, and you’ve err’d too much the other way.
SEO is a question of balance.
