Inbound Marketing Requires Content to Publish
And Inbound Marketing requires content at regular intervals. Preferably daily.
Being an effective Inbound Marketeer means you become a bit like a journalist. You’re always looking for good stories.
However one of the most common comments I get from students is they have trouble finding story ideas.
This blog post details a number of techniques that work well for me.
Record Ideas as They Come
I used to carry a 99 cent pocket notebook and a pen everywhere I went. When an idea occurred to me I pulled it out and wrote it down. Now I use the voice recorder app on my smartphone. The technology is different (not necessarily better), but the idea is the same.
If you’re new to this idea, I recommend starting with the 99 cent pocket notebook.
Monitor Existing Conversations
I started by creating a dozen or so Google Alerts on a dozen different search terms. Every day I received a dozen emails showing me search results for my desired topics.
When a blog post on a website seemed really good, I then subscribe to their email newsletter. Today I get maybe 50 email’s a day that I direct into a special email folder I called “Blogging Ideas”.
Stay Up On Industry News
This is similar to the tip above, but not identical. If there are movers and shakers in your industry, subscribe to their newsletters.
Tie Your Topics to Recurring Events
Appropriate events will vary from business to business, but some businesses run on a monthly cycle (bookkeeping for example) while others are seasonal (sports for example).
Identify recurring events that are relevant to your business and fit them into your publishing schedule.
