Your small business marketing may seem to be working well for your small business, but if ever there was an area where incremental improvements week over week and month over month matter, that lies with marketing.

Here is what to consider.

Focus on relationship marketing

Relationship marketing at is essence is The Golden Rule. Treat people how you like people to treat you. Treat prospects and customers as if they were friends, and if not friends, then people you’re happy to see and hear from.

I’m sure you’ve heard (a thousand times by now) that we do business with people we know, like, and trust. It’s important you be known, be likeable, and be trustworthy.

How do you achieve such a reputation? By being such a person.

Mobile marketing

Mobile is nothing more than making sure your website is mobile friendly (what they call responsive).

It’s no longer hard and if you use WordPress (which you should) it “comes with” most themes, even the inexpensive ones.

To test if your site is or is not mobile friendly, use the Google Mobile-Friendly Test.

Your small businesses need to fully adapt to mobile because search engine now penalizes those websites that are not optimized for mobile.

Embrace content marketing

Content marketing for small businesses is not just a trend but now a mainstream custom for your success.

Your content marketing strategy must incorporate the ideas of relationship marketing and mobile.

Today, you publish to get found online.

Do not just throw blog posts on your website that are quick and simple, but provide educational content that answers real questions you’ve received from real people.

Due to the low costs of video production these days, your small business should also offer video content. You can shoot talking head videos with a laptop webcam (and good lighting), and screencast videos with free software.

Video is no longer expensive and many people (most so younger people) prefer to consume content via video rather than read blog posts.

Test your marketing

Checking your analytics (Google Analytics and Google Search Console are free) is quick and simple. If you got the time and/or budget doing what is called A/B testing on landing pages and Calls to Action can be hugely beneficial.

Remember that if you don’t test periodically you don’t know what does and doesn’t work.
