You and your business want interaction and engagement with your audience. This is the big hype of why you absolutely, positively, MUST have a presence on social media.
However, what is sometimes not said is the absolute king of social media, the absolute best Internet real estate on which to gather your audience, the one best place to experience audience engagement, is YOUR website. More specifically your BLOG.
First, it’s important you understand that Inbound Marketing is built on top of your business blog.
The central activity of Inbound Marketing is generating fresh and useful content. An activity we sometimes call Blogging.
The reason your blog is the right place is because YOU control the content of your blog. Your blog attracts people who have a real and genuine interest in what your website talks about, which should be ways people use your products and/or problems your service solves.
An ancillary (but no less valuable) reason is every time someone submits a comment that is a website update for the search engine robots to notice. And every time you respond that is another one. So a steady stream of comments to your website improves your website ranking.
Then once your crowd starts to show up, it’s imperative that:
- You notice (someone MUST monitor incoming comments).
- You respond
- You engage
If someone asks a question in a comment, it’s appropriate to try to engage them in conversation. You can always just answer, but it makes more sense to end your response with another question. You might just get something interesting in return.
Not only is this not hard, it’s the easiest way to attract a meaningful (and from a business perspective that means convertible) audience with whom to interact.
