Marketing automation is a form of email marketing on steroids. The “steroids” in this case is the ability to suggest actions in the email’s, track if those actions were or were not taken, and to send the next email based of whether the suggested action was taken.
These “if – then” branches is what gives marketing automation it’s huge advantage over traditional email.
The trouble with marketing automation is it’s been expensive and difficult to implement, but a new company is working to change that.
Consider for example some of the entry price points for existing marketing automation vendors:
- Marketo: $1,400 per month
- Pardot: $1,000 per month
- Act-On: $600 per month
- InfusionSoft: $199 per month
- X2Engine: $42 per month
Would you believe sophisticated marketing automation systems now start at free?
Their name is Mautic and they host marketing automation systems at mautic.com for free, in the same way that Automattic hosts WordPress systems at wordpress.com.
Automattic makes money by charging large enterprise clients for support engagements. Mautic is following a similar model.
One of their founders told me today since they opened their doors 5 months ago, they have signed up 10,000 users.
Clearly they’re providing a solution for which there is real and genuine demand.
I’m committing to Mautic for my marketing automation needs and will be publishing a series of posts over time explaining what you use it for, and how.
Stay tuned. I’ll let you know how it goes.
