Email for small businesses. How to stay top of your customers mind.

Email marketing for small businesses

Email marketing helps your product and small business remain in your customers mind. Emails serve as a polite way of reminding your customers about your small business and product or service.

Generally emails from your small businesses helps you to still remain in front at the market.

What kinds of emails keeps your business top of your customers mind?

The generic (and perhaps somewhat obvious answer is…. email’s that provide information your customers actually want.

Focus on content over format and keep the reader in mind. These email’s are not about your, but when done well they provide information about you in a way that is not overt and overly promotional.

Of course the exception to this one is when your intention is to provide something clearly promotional to your customers, such as a discount, free shipping, etc. When these things are of interest to your readers, then by all means feel free.

The following are some types of useful emails:

Regular emails

Focus on hints and tips. Think Martha Stewart helping people create Thanksgiving center pieces, Sherwin-Williams giving advise on ways to know if you’ll like your color ideas long term, or the local pet store giving advise on how to rid your dog of the smell of skunk in the unfortunate event this is ever relevant to you.

Those topics are not blatantly commercial, provide information people want, and give you the opportunity to sell something via a Call to Action at the bottom.

Reorder emails

If your small business provides a product or service that is regularly needed, sending a reorder email to your customers is an outstanding way to remind them that it’s time to buy. This can be a great way to encourage a do again business.

You can also use this to communicate to customer you haven’t heard from in a long time. When a customer has not communicated for a while, you can send them an email that reminds them they may again need some of what you sell.

Send them an email that says something like “Let’s do Business Again”. In this type of email it probably does make sense to provide a discount or something of the kind to entice them to come back.
