How to grow your email list

Creative tips on how to grow an engaged business email list

Everyone has trouble building their email list at first. But there really are some tried and true best practices that really do work.

Email is THE BEST channel to nurture leads, but to make it work things need to be setup right.

In this article, we show you the tried and true methods that work, just not overnight.

As with all forms of marketing, email marketing takes time and consistency.

Add a sign-up button to your email

While I know of no service that allows you to add a Call to Action button in your email signature, nothing prevents you from adding a “Signup for our email list” in your email signature.

Put a sign-up form on your website

While this is an obvious thing to do, it’s surprising how many small businesses don’t do it.

Your website is the first contact many people have with your business online. By adding a sign up form on your website you offer an easy way of connecting with new customers.

When you put it at the top of the website sidebar, it shows on all webpages that display the sidebar. This make it easy to collect email addresses when people visit your website.

If you host events where people register in advance, get their email address, provide a checkbox for “I wish to receive your newsletter” or some such, and pre-check it. This allows people to opt out, rather than opt in.

Offer a downloadable whitepaper

This is sometimes known as “lead bait”. You create a landing page where in exchange for their name and email address, they are able to download an eBook or white paper that provides something interesting and useful.

To grow your email list, think about the places your customers interact with your business, and take advantage of those interactions to build your list.
