How to create a successful webinar for small businesses

Successful content marketers spend much of their time creating online videos which are published weekly.

If you are creating blog content or white papers, you’ve got the information you need to create successful webinars.

What is a webinar?

Webinar is a combination of the words web and seminar and therefor a webinar is a seminar (live or recorded) through online conferencing.

Webinars are guided by a host or a teacher that makes them different from other content formats.

Creating webinars is time consuming and requires some technical power (you need a software platform for the live stream video and a way to take questions from your audience.

But if you have an eBook or blog on your business website, you can convert it (or repurpose it) into a webinar format you can use to turn strangers into leads.

Consider the following when you think of creating a successful webinar.

Webinar tools

The tools you need will vary a bit depending on the finished product you want.

You need good video conferencing software that can serve many viewers.

Also check on the internet bandwidth at your company. Make sure it can stream a without dropping.

One tool we’ve quite liked is called WebinarJam. It’s sold as a subscription service for $400 a year and is very feature rich.

Get the most confident speaker who has the authority to speak to the topic at hand. If that person is you, go for it. If it’s someone else, recruit them.

Rehearse! Not just the webinar content but the webinar controls.

Make some trial of a few people to make sure you know how to make things go smoothly.

For effective delivery of webinars and to establish trust, the production quality of the webinar matters.

Tip: If you have two hosts, consider having different genders.

What is the focus of your webinar?

If you want to sell your product, TEACH about it. But always remember to teach rather than pushing your product or service.

You do want to sell, but if you sell too hard your efforts can backfire.

Effective webinars last for about 30-60 minutes. Never go more than 90 minutes.
