Steps to follow -creating a social media plan for your small business

A social media marketing plan can be defined as the summary of all the things you plan to do and to succeed for your business using social networks. The actions you take on social networks should all be a part of your entire social media marketing strategy.

This is viewed as a complicated idea by some business owners, but by breaking down your entire plan into small bite sized pieces, it becomes not only manageable, but easy and fun.

Steps to follow when creating your social media plan includes the following

Generate your social media objectives

The first step to any social media marketing strategy is to establish objectives that you intend to achieve.

Without goals, you have no means of evaluating your success and no means of proving your ROI. It is advisable to write at least 3 goals.

Metrics I think make sense are:

  • Engagement (likes, shares, etc).
  • Referrals to your website.

You’ll probably find at least one more that makes sense for your business.

Create Fresh and Original Content at Regular Intervals

This is blog posts you will publish in YOUR website. It is some of the content you will share via social media. More on this below.

Carry out a social media review

Before creating your social media marketing plan, assess your current social media use and how it is effective for you.

This will help to determine who is presently connecting to you via social media, which social media sites your target market uses and how your social media existence compares to your competitors.

Create your full content schedule (which includes social media updates)

Great content is essential to prospering at social media. Your social media marketing plan should include your content marketing plan and schedule, encompassed of strategies for content formation and content duration.
