Small businesses often don’t use their business website effectively for maximum gains.

This is often due to a limited budget, limited other resources, and for some small business they do not know exactly how to build their business website, or what to do after building their website to grow an audience and generate leads.

On this post, I’ll walk you through the basic outline to follow for your online marketing.

Define your product or service

You have a brand, whether you know what it is or not. It is a fact that businesses that have staying power have a strong brand. Businesses with weak brands often fail. What’s your brand?

As a small business starting up your online marketing, you need to define your brand to differentiate yourself from your competitors.

When building your brand, consider the following.

  1. Think about your origin story

  3. Do competitor research
  4. Compile information
  5. Answer a few basic questions:
    1. What do you sell?
    2. Who do you sell to?
    3. What decision process do they go through when making buying decisions?

Review your business website- content and language

If you already have a website for your small business, take a step back and review your website through the eyes of your website audience.

Check your website if it contains the information your target audience needs. Review the language used on your website. Remember that your brand position and how it is perceived is at the heart of the language you use on your business website.

Develop a marketing strategy for your small business.

Having a website for your business that presents you and differentiates you from others is where you start. Now it’s time to think about marketing strategies with the biggest return on investments.

Think about the following strategies.

Content strategy

Social media strategy

Email marketing

Generally, for small businesses, there’s a lot that goes into marketing, but by taking things one step at a time, you make things more manageable.
