Your Content Marketing Blog Should Drive Your Social Media

Social Media Augments Your Blog

Nothing attracts relevant visitors to your website like publishing content to your website in a strong SEO friendly format, yet there is a strong focus and emphasis on social media marketing.

A report from BrightEdge that was published a few weeks ago demonstrate that organic search is where it’s at, while social media has very little payback.

Having said that, let me be clear. I’m not suggesting you abandon social media. I’m suggesting you put effort appropriately into the various activities that generate results.

Please read the article linked to above. Then when you understand that only 5% of website traffic originates from social media referrals, you understand why a small fraction of your digital marketing efforts should be devoted to social media.

Augment, Not Replace

I don’t often find articles in the trade press which agree that social media marketing should augment your blog, so I was very pleased to find this article…..

Blogging is What Works Best

The core activity of Inbound Marketing is blogging, which I define as publishing interesting and relevant content, in fairly small bite sized chunks, at frequent intervals (multiple times a day) and to keep doing this.

That activity should be augmented with what I’ll call “real world networking”, which includes (but is in no means limited to) social media networking.

In addition to social media networking, you also need to meet people face to face, exchange email’s, and in generate do those things which help build your business, not just your website.
