SEO attracts visitors to your website, Inbound Marketing is the fuller effort of converting visitors into leads

Why SEO is important For Businesses? How does it Generate Leads?

The (very) short answer is SEO generates the lowest cost leads EVER!!!!!!

However that’s a very simplistic answer.

It takes a lot of work to generate the lowest cost leads ever.

Important SEO point #1

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It causes your website to rank high in Google for a set of keyword phrases. This in turn brings visitors to your website via organic search.

However….. website visitors are not enough. Your business needs leads.

Important SEO point #2

The bigger picture of attracting visitors to your website via organic search, then converting website visitors into leads by getting them to provide contact information, is called Inbound Marketing.

Broadly speaking it consists of two main pieces which are tightly intertwined:

  1. You publish quality content at frequent intervals and you promote that content via social media and email.
  2. You overlay that publishing activity with your marketing intention so website visitors talk the first step (or two) of your sales funnel on your website.

Important SEO point #3

It takes time, effort, focus, dedication, consistency, and persistence. Did I mention persistence? That’s really important.

Important SEO point #4

When it kicks in, it can feel like Christmas every day.

It can take months for your website to start generating a steady stream of leads, but because these people found you after doing a Google search (or Yahoo, maybe Bing) they’re very high quality leads. I’ve seen Inbound Marketing take businesses from famine to feast, but after several months of focused effort.

Important SEO point #5

For most businesses, Inbound Marketing generates leads, not sales. Let’s pretend your sales funnel has 8 steps. Inbound Marketing drops leads into the top of your funnel.

Inbound Marketing generates sales when your sales funnel is only one or two steps on an eCommerce type site.

For the rest of us, the sale has to be completed by someone contacting the lead and following up.

Important SEO point #6

95+ percent of us who buy stuff, do not buy after the first impression. On average it takes 7. For that reason the leads generated by Inbound Marketing need to be nurtured.
