How can small businesses build and grow their subscribers list?

What you need to add and improve your email subscribers list

Building subscriber lists is an important part of your email marketing strategy.

Remember that having a big list is not enough. You need to have email addresses that are relevant to your business, your business goals, and (and this is the key) relevant for the people who subscribe.

There are a number of ways to collect email addresses today, and some work better than others.

The following are best practices for building an effective subscriber list.

Streamline your sign-up process

Avoid a clunky process that is hard for subscribers to complete. Make sure you get the most out of the interaction during the sign-up process. Ask for the absolute minimum amount of information. For an email list, I recommend only the first name and the email address.

Make it obvious how to sign up

Use a visually obvious call to action button. Your call to action button should be impossible to mistake for anything else.

Promise value

Why should anyone give you their email address? What’s in it for them? Don’t assume it’s obvious. Spell it out.

Conclusion

The best short little statement that describes how to build a good list is “Keep it simple”.

  1. Make it visually obvious.
  2. Make it easy to do.
  3. Make it clear what’s in it for them.
