What it takes to be successful with SEO is consistence and persistence, and a bit of trial and error (for conversion).

What is the Single Best Piece of SEO Advise to Attract Visitors and Generate Leads?

The best advise I’ve ever heard about how to be successful in attracting visitors to your website via organic search and converting website visitors into leads is not SEO advise per se, but rather life advise.

The secrets to success are consistency and persistence.

You want a million people to show up to your website? Keep publishing and promoting content until they do.

Want to generate 5 leads a day from your website visitors? Keep tweaking your conversion until it happens.

I know that advise is somewhat vague, but that is what it takes to make it (or anything) work.

Being more specific…. SEO is less about keywords today than it is about publishing. Take a few minutes right now to perform a few random searches on Google.

Did you notice that almost always news type sites (specialized industry news is still news) tend to outrank business blogs?

Why is this?

I call this the Wikipedia effect and while Wikipedia is not a news site per se, it tends to outrank almost every site on the Internet.

This happens because Google definitely prioritizes some combination of the following in ranking web pages.

  1. How much content is on the website the web page is on?:
  2. How good is it (this has a few different aspects)?
  3. How often is the website updated?
  4. How long has the website been around?

News websites (and Wikipedia) do better on those criteria than other types of sites.

Keeping that thought, the way to make your website rank is to keep publishing. To think of your website as an online magazine with daily publishing deadlines.

Publish good stuff, at frequent intervals, and keep doing it.

Over time your website ranking will rise.

On the conversion side of things, think through what steps your customers go through in the process of becoming your customer, then on your website walk them through the first step or two.

Generally initial website conversion is to offer something of value in exchange for a name and email address.

You then nurture that lead through email and/or marketing automation (a highly personalized form of email marketing).

This advise is perhaps not the simple solution you want, but this is what works.

Consistency, perseverance, and on the conversion side a bit of trial and error.
