Is your sales and marketing alignment generating and closing more leads? Marketing automation tools are excellent for small businesses owners but they forget that sales people skills is a major factor toward success.

You may have a marketing automation tool but still experience lead nurturing problems.

The solution to the problem is to get more skillful with your marketing automation software and your sales copy. Nothing comes on a silver platter when it comes to generating more leads and converting them into paying customers.

Marketing automation tools like Hubspot, Marketo, Mautic, etc are great tools to nurture leads.

Hubspot confuses people a bit because they provide both Inbound Marketing tools and Marketing Automation tools and while those are different functions, with HubSpots tools the user interface looks simialr.

In today’s online marketing, your sales copy and your sales people need to be more efficient and skillful.

But how do you make your sales people efficient? Here are some tips.


Train your sales people regularly

There are lot of choices when it comes to sales training, but the one we’ve enjoyed most is Eric Lofholm International. Eric is a guy who lives near Sacramento, CA who provides excellent material, and weekly group coaching via conference calls.

Acquire a modern CRM system

Do you have a modern CRM system? You need to track leads, opportunities, and contacts and assign tasks so prospects don’t fall through the cracks and not get attention.

This is one of the best tool for managing your sales pipeline.

There are a lot of really bad small business CRM systems out there, and we’ve used several over the years. Our favorite is HubSpot who has a free CRM system that is really easy to use. They also have a smart phone app, but the smart phone app is not nearly as full featured as the browser version.

Best of all, the starting price for the HubSpot CRM is FREE! And the free version is really good.

Language Patterns

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) has a concept in it called The Meta Model which are various language patterns that have to do with vague language. Learning these is enormously useful and it helps you recognize and address these uses of vague language.


The training need not be formal. People can pursue such training on their own, but one way or another such training makes a huge difference.
