About a year ago, Sonia Simone of CopyBlogger published a post titled The 5 Things Every (Great) Marketing Story Needs.

It’s spot on and it inspired this post of mine.

It’s about the power of story telling in your marketing efforts.

Inbound Marketing is all about story telling and we are wired to learn effectively from stories.

What Every Great Marketing Story Needs

A Hero

You are NOT the hero. Your customers and prospects are. This is really important and many businesses get this wrong.

A Goal

What is the hero trying to do? Where is the hero trying to go?

Grow website traffic? Generate high quality leads? Sell more?

An Obstacle

If it was easy, anyone could do it. Your hero needs to get past the obstacle, which is hard.

Effective Inbound Marketing agencies charge $2,500 and more each month to deliver results, which takes months to come to fruition.

For most small businesses I deal with, this is a major obstacle.

A Mentor

By the way, this is you. You will help the hero overcome the obstacle and achieve the goal.

A Moral

Don’t be afraid to tell them. The moral is that your help made all the difference.
