The long tail is not just a keyword strategy, it's also a business strategy of being appropriate specialized so you stand out more within your niche.

Should I use long tail keywords or short tail keywords for social media profiles of my business?

You should use appropriate phrases in your social media profile for your business and some of those might be long tail keywords while others are shorter keywords.

The main thing is to accurately reflect what your business does.

In this post I’d like to discuss a broader point.

The Long Tail is not JUST a keyword strategy, it’s a business strategy.

In a nutshell, it explains that as it can be very hard to stand out in a very crowded business niche, it can be much easier to stand out in a much narrower more specialized niche.

The saying the author of the book pushes is “The future of business is selling less of more”, and in this age of Internet marketing (Internet everything actually) the prizes go to those of us who figure out how to do that.

The trade off is the narrower more specialized niche is, the smaller your market will be.

It’s being a bigger fish by swimming in a smaller pond.

The key here is to figure out what you sell and to who, work to create/define that to be appropriately broad and appropriately narrow.

Then reflect that business identify in your Inbound Marketing and SEO by creating a website which you use to generate interest, publish good content frequently, then create social media profiles that accurately reflect what you sell, to who, and why people should care.
