Sales Funnels for Small Business: Moving Leads and Prospects to a Sale

Sales Funnels 101

The classical definition of a sales funnel is the processes and systems you implement to move leads step by step through your selling process until they either drop off, or buy.

That in fact is why it’s called a “funnel”. Fewer and fewer people move to the next stage of the process.

Once your website traffic is high enough and you know what percentage of people move to the next stage, you know how many people you need to attract to your website in order to make one sale.

Who Do You Think Knows Your Sales Funnel Best?

You? Someone who sells for you? The marketing consultant you once hired?

Probably not.

The answer is your customers do, and there a simple reason they do.

The Buyers Decision Process

When we buy things, we go through a buying decision process whether we are consciously aware of it or not. This process varies depending upon what we’re buying.

The decision for buying a house is much more involved than the decision process for buying a camera, which is much more involved still than the decision process for buying back to school supplies for your young children.

Their Buying Decision Process is Your Sales Funnel

And that is the important point here. I say again…. Their buying decision process is your sales funnel.

If you don’t understand what decision process our customers go through, you don’t really know your sales funnel.

Ask Some Customers How They Decided to Buy From You

It’s the best way to know. Heck it may be the only way to know.

You Then Implement Your Sales Funnel on Your Website
