How to improve on your inbound marketing mistakes

Is your inbound marketing strategies successful? What to avoid

Why do most small businesses struggle with Inbound Marketing? Why do most small business Inbound Marketing efforts fail?

For the same reason big businesses struggle and fail.

Failure to understand what Inbound Marketing is and how it works.

Since it’s called “marketing” people treat it the way they treat advertising. Inbound Marketing is not advertising, it’s content.

It’s best to think of Inbound Marketing as you turning your website into an online magazine, targeted to your desired set of readers (people who are likely to buy your stuff) where every ad in this online magazine is for your products or services.

While the rest of this articles talks about attracting readers, it’s important to realize that to attract readers in large enough numbers, you must first get the attention of the search engines.

Your readers are losing interest in your website because of many reasons and some of them are discussed below.

You’re boring

This is probably the #1 reason why Inbound Marketing fails. Of course the search engine robots don’t know what “boring” is, but they do recognize being repetitive and saying the same thing over and over. While some repetition is needed ( you can always make the same point in different ways), there is such as thing as too much.

Your topics are too narrow

You’re writing ONLY for people who might buy. You need to broaden your topics. Google “likes” sites that are liked. Busier sites rank higher. One of the best ways to attract more people who do buy is to attract more people who don’t.

Having said all this….

No clear goals

With inbound marketing, you goals are your road map. Failing to outline clear goals makes your tracking and measuring impossible.

And remember that if you don’t measure and track your performance you will not be able to plan for the future.  To avoid such, always revisit your inbound marketing goals and identify what need to be improved.

Fortunately Google provides two free tools that makes it easy to know in detail what’s going on.

Concentrating on quantity over quality

Content is the driving engine of inbound marketing and if you don’t create good content then your marketing campaign may not generate returns.

To Google, “good” means useful and interesting.

Creating content is one thing and crating quality content is another thing. For more details on creating better content click here… Strategies on how to create better and not just more content

Content is relevant if it resonates with the needs of your audience. Your content should be relevant and have value to your visitors. Create content that will make your audience share your content with others.

To improve your blog, think of hiring a content writer for your website. Many small business owners lack the time and temperament to write good stuff often.

So… How important is it to hire content writers for your website

Poor email marketing strategy

Are you buying email lists? You may think that you are sending emails to many and many people but you don’t see any results. With inbound marketing, you will build a quality list from people signing up.

Do not buy lists. Build your own.
