Inbound Marketing is a Core Competency: Grow Organic Traffic and Generate Leads

Do Not Outsource Marketing

If it’s not a core value add activity, you should find a way to outsource it. This leaves you open to attend to the most critical revenue generating activities which will grow your business.

Marketing IS a core value add activity. While you can (and should) outsource some aspects of marketing (graphics design perhaps, writing of blog posts maybe) you can not outsource the responsibility, the strategic decisions, and day to day operational oversight.

Especially do not outsource responsibility, strategy, and day to day operational oversight of Inbound Marketing.

Inbound Marketing Transforms Businesses

When your Inbound Marketing efforts take hold (and it does take time), businesses are transformed. I’ve seen businesses go from not having enough leads and having to coddle each and every one, to be very selective about what customers and projects they’re willing to take on.

All because their incoming lead flow increased 30 fold or more, AND the prospects were of higher quality. After all the prospect found the business, not visa versa.

Inbound Marketing is Like Any Focused Effort

However, Inbound Marketing is effort. It’s a classic example of the following quotes:

  • “We reap what we sow”
  • “The harder we work, the luckier we get”

Want to Lose Weight?

Establish a calorie budget and stay under it. Count calories. Eat food that packs more nutrition into each calories (that means vegetables guys), and increase your calorie expenditures (that means exercise).

Want immediate weight loss? Sorry. It does not exit.

Want to Increase Fitness?

Then move your body every day. It doesn’t take much movement. What matters most is the every day part. Perhaps you start by walking every day. In time you run laps at the local track. In more time you’re doing a Tough Mudder. Stay with it. Be dedicated and diligent.

Want to Grow Organic Traffic?

The same principal applies here. Publish articles to your website EVERY DAY. Network with others for backlinks, comments, and social media mentions EVERY DAY.

Be committed. Be persistent. Be consistent.

Learn and apply the principals of website conversion. They’re not hard to learn, but they’re easy to not do, which is why so many websites do not do them.

Inbound Marketing in Groups Helps Everyone

One of the interesting dynamics of Inbound Marketing is being found helps you be found more, which creates a virtuous cycle.

Join or create a Business Blogging Group, where you help each other “prime the pump” of your online presence. Help each other be found initially by “finding” each other.
