How to optimize your email marketing strategy for success

Easy steps for successful and more profitable email campaigns

Despite the wide use of social media, email is still the dominate form of messaging on the Internet today.

Please check their email constantly and now with email clients on smart phones their email goes everywhere they go.

As such, effective Email marketing for small businesses means more exposure to your leads and (when done well) more business.

But how do you optimize your email marketing campaigns?

While email marketing provides lots of benefits to small businesses it also provides a few challenges because every prospect gets A LOT of email. You’re NOT the only one.

One of the beauties of email marketing is that you can tailor your subject lines and your messages to fit your customers’ expectations.

The following are simple steps to make your customers put you ahead of their mind.

Subject Line

The subject line of your email is the most important part of your whole email. The subject line is the main thing that determines whether the email is opened or not.

Your subject line can win or lose a lead.  Therefore create a good subject line considering the following elements:

  • Keep it short and sweet
  • Appeal to their needs
  • Imply a good outcome
  • Personalize (we all love to see and hear our own names)

Don’t waste this valuable space.

Relevant content

75% of buyers expect content that is related to something they bought (or are considering) and that’s where the relevance of your content comes in.

Being relevant to your customers makes your emails stand out and get noticed. Segmentation is one of the best ways to send relevant content. Just stick to the basics of list segmentation and send specific information to each segment.

But did you know that too many emails can scare your subscribers and ultimately disengage them with you? Keep your customers engaged with you by NOT sending too many emails.

One more important aspect to remember: optimize your email for mobile and smart phones

Design your emails in such a way that the mobile viewer gets mobile-only content for example custom action button link to open an app) and doesn’t see desktop-specific information.

I’m certain every email marketing service provides tools to help you preview the email and send a test email, but some people don’t use them.

Email marketing is still evolving but the above steps are a good place for you to start.
