guaranteed seo results, inbound marketing

Curious Why SEO Consultants Who Guarantee Results Hurt Your Business?

What’s Wrong with Guaranteed Results?

There are too many variables in play.

Below is a (very) partial list:

  • You can not control what your competitors are doing, only what you are doing.
  • Search results are becoming more personalized, which means two people submitting the same search query, get different results.
  • Google algorithm updates change the rules of ranking and ranking achieved through tricks stop working when the tricks are nullified.

So if any SEO agency or consultant ever guarantees you a 1st page placement on Google for a given search phrase, just say no.

Does This Mean SEO Results are Hopeless?

Not at all.

It just means that guaranteed specific results are hype.

SEO (or more accurately Inbound Marketing) unquestionably works, when you do it right, when you do it enough, and when you keep doing it.

Here I’m reminded of a quote attributed to Thomas Edison. It does something like….

Most people don’t recognize opportunity when they see it, because it looks like work.

What people are hoping for is shortcuts to SEO success. Many agencies and consultants are happy to sell you shortcuts, but the problem is, there are no shortcuts.

So What Does it Take to Success with SEO?

In a word, publishing. Successful SEO is publishing.

Putting content on your website is publishing.

To illustrate this point, are newspaper and magazine websites publications? Or just websites?

The next important question is why is YOUR website different?
