Today’s Inbound Marketing minute describes the best tip for finding a steady stream of fresh content ideas.

It’s not what you may be expecting. It’s not respond to questions that customers and prospects ask you. It’s not go on online forums and see what questions other people ask.

It’s about training your subconscious mind to bring these ideas to your attention. It’s called your reticulated activating system.

Bear with me for a minute. I’m sure at some point in your life you’ve had the experience of suddenly you start noticing something you never noticed before. For example, let’s say you’ve decided that you want to buy a Prius. You start doing some research, you start visiting dealers, maybe go for a few test drives.

One thing that invariably happens is that you start noticing how many Prius’s are on the road, something you did not notice previously.

It’s not that the Prius’s suddenly arrived, it’s that you are now noticing them.

That’s because Prius’s have suddenly become important to you, therefore whenever a Prius goes by, your unconscious makes you consciously aware of it.

That’s referred to as programming your reticulated activating system.

You can do the same thing with blog post topic ideas, or ideas for fresh content.

The way you do it is get a mechanism for recording ideas for fresh content, whether it be a voice recorder app on your smartphone, or a 99 cent pocket notebook and a pencil.

Record one or two ideas every day, even if you have to force yourself. Even if you don’t have a good idea, every day record an idea, even if it’s a bad idea.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly you start noticing ideas for fresh content that you didn’t previously notice.

It’s not that the fresh content ideas are suddenly there, it’s that you’re suddenly seeing them where you previously didn’t.
