This Inbound Marketing Minute talks about social media promotion of the content that you’ve published to your website.

One of the inconvenient truths about social media is that your social media updates are actually seen by very few of your followers and this is constant across all the various social media platforms, and it’s intentional.

If everybody saw everything that the people they followed published everybody would have too many social media updates to sift through every day.

So all the various social media sites… they have a throttling algorithm that determines what gets seen by who.

So in order to be effective and you’ll notice there are a lot of people who do this, a really good blog post is shared with social media more than once.

And the way to do this if you’re not doing this already is to use some form of a scheduling tool such as buffer which is a tool that I particularly like for this, so you can take a specific blog post that you’re specifically proud of, and you can queue it up so it goes out today, in four days, four days later, four days later, and you can queue it up into the future.

So the main point here is that since your social media updates are seen by relatively few of your social media followers, in order to increase the number of people who do see it you need to send out that update multiple times.

To make sending the update out multiple times easier, there are a variety of tools available; Hootsuite and Buffer are probably the two that are most well known.

I personally like Buffer because I find it to be easy to use.
